The Braided Corona Star is a more advanced version of the star I created last year, the Braided Star. By tweaking the unit here and there I was able to reveal an extra layer of paper that adds even more visual interest to the model!

Braided Corona Star

It’s that time of the year again! Time to fold origami stars and Christmas decorations.

For this project you will need 30 square sheets of paper, preferably double-sided. For the model pictured above I used 6 cm squares of red-yellow colored origami paper by Toyo (Japan). It worked out nicely, but I actually recommend using larger sheets, at least 7.5 cm (3 inch) in length.

Mandala Carla

Mandala Carla is one of the latest origami designs of mine, it’s barely a few days old. It’s dedicated to an origami enthusiast from Brasil – Carla Onishi,  hence the name. And why is it called “mandala”, I hear you ask. Well, firstly, I was told that’s how they call origami stars in Brazil (have no idea how true it really is, if someone could explain me the difference between “mandala” and “estrella” that would be nice). And secondly, because I felt like mandala is something meant to be looked at from one side only – which is exactly the case with this design :)

The reverse side of this model looks a bit weird, but I liked the front so much that I decided I don’t really care. Use it to decorate gifts and cards, hang it up on the wall or magnet it to the fridge.

Mandala Carla

I am very glad to share with you a new origami diagram for one of my stars! This is a modular origami star, Robin Star, made from 8 square sheets of paper, no glue needed. It’s double-sided and I’m not even sure which side is the front and which is the back, because I really like both of them!

Robin Star

I’ve been playing around with A4 rectangles these past few days in an attempt to make even more origami stars. Interestingly enough, all stars I ended up with had an odd number of points – 5, 7 and 13.

13-pointed star is completely flat and other two are slightly “3D”. I’m not sure I’m happy with 5-pointed star because it looks a bit “distorted” rather than “3D”, but others are quite good, I especially like 13-pointed one!

Origami Wreath

I was very lucky last year to buy this wrapping foil paper during the holiday sale. There was only one roll of it and I never saw this paper again since then. It folds like a dream and even though the reverse side is not pure white, I’m very happy with this paper anyway. So with the holiday season coming up, I hope I find something interesting this year too!
