I’ve been saving and bookmarking tutorials for this star since last year and this holiday season I finally decided to give it a try!

This star has lots of names – Froebel Star, German Star, Swedish Star, Danish Star or Moravian Star are just a few to mention. You can read more about the history of Froebel Star (and learn which name is not correct) here.

The star is made out of four rather long strips of paper, a width-to-length ratio may vary from 1:25 to 1:30. This is not exactly an easy star, it takes at least a few tries to get it right, but after folding around 20 of them I feel like I’ll never forget it! They are so addictive!

There are plenty of tutorials on the net explaining how to make it, so I just added a couple of links to the ones I used.

Once you have mastered the star, you may want to make something more challenging out of them! I made this kusudama with a total of 6 stars (they’re only 3D on one side) – check out the video below to learn how it can be done.

To make a Christmas wreath with Froebel stars you will need 8 of them. Insert points of one star into another one (look at the picture to see how they are positioned relative to each other). Before you insert the points, add a dab of glue to hold them in place.

I used tracing paper for all these stars because it’s not only thin and strong at the same time, but also available in large sheets, which is pretty handy when it comes to cutting long strips.

This is an origami Christmas wreath I made last year. It’s folded from 8 square sheets of paper (15 cm), painted with gold (though I don’t quite remember whether I did it before or after folding… hm) and then decorated with paper fasteners. All units are just glued to each other.
I think this wreath will make a wonderful decoration for the Holidays! To learn how to fold it, check out the link in the description section.

These are two new origami wreaths of my own design I’m very excited about! Each of them has 12 points but is folded from only 6 sheets of paper, which I believe is a pretty good deal.
I used rectangular sheets of paper to make the wreath on the left and square sheets to make the one on the right. Can’t decide which I like the most!
This very nice and simple modular origami star by Hans-Werner Guth, Eifel Star, is made from 12 square sheets of paper without gluing. I folded it quite some time ago but I still remember that I enjoyed it a lot, that’s why I actually made two of them in a row!
Follow the links below to learn how fold and assemble this star!

I was very lucky last year to buy this wrapping foil paper during the holiday sale. There was only one roll of it and I never saw this paper again since then. It folds like a dream and even though the reverse side is not pure white, I’m very happy with this paper anyway. So with the holiday season coming up, I hope I find something interesting this year too!

These are some of my latest origami stars I’ve been creating recently. All of them are folded from 6 square sheets of plain kami paper without glue. These stars are very stable and easy to assemble at the same time, but they do require very neat and precise folding. If folded inaccurately they just don’t lay flat on table surface (and strongly resemble propellers).
