I’ve been saving and bookmarking tutorials for this star since last year and this holiday season I finally decided to give it a try!

This star has lots of names – Froebel Star, German Star, Swedish Star, Danish Star or Moravian Star are just a few to mention. You can read more about the history of Froebel Star (and learn which name is not correct) here.

The star is made out of four rather long strips of paper, a width-to-length ratio may vary from 1:25 to 1:30. This is not exactly an easy star, it takes at least a few tries to get it right, but after folding around 20 of them I feel like I’ll never forget it! They are so addictive!

There are plenty of tutorials on the net explaining how to make it, so I just added a couple of links to the ones I used.

Once you have mastered the star, you may want to make something more challenging out of them! I made this kusudama with a total of 6 stars (they’re only 3D on one side) – check out the video below to learn how it can be done.

To make a Christmas wreath with Froebel stars you will need 8 of them. Insert points of one star into another one (look at the picture to see how they are positioned relative to each other). Before you insert the points, add a dab of glue to hold them in place.

I used tracing paper for all these stars because it’s not only thin and strong at the same time, but also available in large sheets, which is pretty handy when it comes to cutting long strips.

I am very glad to share with you a new origami diagram for one of my stars! This is a modular origami star, Robin Star, made from 8 square sheets of paper, no glue needed. It’s double-sided and I’m not even sure which side is the front and which is the back, because I really like both of them!

Check out a link below to the instructions on how to fold and assemble it!

This is an origami Christmas wreath I made last year. It’s folded from 8 square sheets of paper (15 cm), painted with gold (though I don’t quite remember whether I did it before or after folding… hm) and then decorated with paper fasteners. All units are just glued to each other.
I think this wreath will make a wonderful decoration for the Holidays! To learn how to fold it, check out the link in the description section.

I’ve been playing around with A4 rectangles these past few days in an attempt to make even more origami stars. Interestingly enough, all stars I ended up with had an odd number of points – 5, 7 and 13.

13-pointed star is completely flat and other two are slightly “3D”. I’m not sure I’m happy with 5-pointed star because it looks a bit “distorted” rather than “3D”, but others are quite good, I especially like 13-pointed one!
This Christmas Tree is the latest origami model by Francesco Guarnieri which he generously shared just a few days ago!

It’s folded from 6 octagons of different sizes that you cut out of squares after some pre-creasing. Follow the link below for the Crease Pattern.

No cutting or gluing required to make the units but you may want to add a dab of glue between them for more stability (though I didn’t). Great design to make and decorate your home or office for the Holiday Season!
