This is a very special flower. The flower my origami friend Carla dedicated to me! I’m so flattered — and delighted! Thank you so much, dear:)

P.S. Believe it or not, but just 20 minutes ago I came up with a new origami star design (as one can figure out from my photostream on Flickr, I’ve been playing with stars quite heavily lately). So what I do know about this new design for sure, is that I’ll name it Mandala Carla:) What I’m not so sure about, is when exactly I’ll be able to post photos and instructions for this. Hopefully this week – I haven’t shared anything new for ages!

Glue a piece of flexible or metal magnet to the rose bottom (or just place it into the pockets) and there you have it!

I think for those who have already mastered both, the traditional origami crane and the famous Kawasaki’s Rose, it would be interesting to try this model by Satoshi Kamiya – which is basically a cross between those two.

It was quite a challenging model actually! The most difficult part for me was not the rose, as one might think, but the neck and tail because there are many layers of paper there and when it comes to folding them the model is 3D and not flat, which make things even trickier.

I would suggest using a rather large sheet of thin or medium-weight paper. Make a test fold to see how you can improve your final fold.

If you’ve been following me on Flickr for a while, you’ve probably seen this picture of Carambola Flowers before — I folded them ages ago! But since my Pro account is going to expire in a few days time (and I don’t feel like upgrading it again), a lot of my old photos won’t be displayed anymore. So I decided it would be a good idea to share the very best of them on my blog!

These absolutely beautiful origami flowers were designed by Carmen Sprung and I just love them! Each flower is made from a single sheet of paper, not from a square though, but from a pentagon. I would recommend using fairly thick and strong paper (80–90 gsm) to fold them — Tant origami paper will be just the right choice!
